In Memoriam

Today it has been 7 years since my grandmother passed away. My memories, like photographs, are beginning to fade around the edges, but I will never forget everything that made her beautiful: her laughter, her unconditional love, her fierce loyalty, her strength of character, her ability to put anyone at ease, and her genuine joy in having her loved ones all around her.

I miss you every day, Nanni.

Over in Killarney,
Many years ago,
Me mither sang a song to me
In tones so sweet and low.
Just a simple little ditty,
In her good ould Irish way,
And I’d give the world if she could sing
That song to me this day.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Hush, now don’t you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
That’s an Irish lullaby.
Oft, in dreams I wander
To that cot again,
I feel her arms a huggin’ me
As when she held me then.
And I hear her voice a humin’
To me as in days or yore,
When she used to rock me fast asleep
Outside the cabin door.
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Hush, now don’t you cry!
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
Too-ra-loo-ra-li,
Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ral,
That’s an Irish lullaby...

  1. what a gorgeous photo. Is she on a plane? Can you imagine flying in such a fancy ensemble (and probably while smoking!)?

  2. Thanks, I alway loved that photo of her! She looked so fabulous. She and my grandfather were on a plane, headed to Bermuda for their honeymoon. Just like a scene out of Mad Men.. :)
